Attuning and upgrade materials
A refined material's name can carry a prefix — a Drifter's Copper Ingot, a Wayfarer's Tin Sheet — and the prefix says which attribute the material was attuned to. Three catalysts, by crafting tier: dust attunes to one attribute, powder to a pair, crystal to three.
This is the table from soresha's InfoMap Advanced v2.8, a player-made map add-on (2013) found in the game client's UI folder. It says which prefix belongs to which attribute and catalyst and nothing more: how attuning was done, and what an attuned material did for the finished item, it does not say, and neither does this page. It does explain something the recipes leave bare — the Prima guide lists Tin Ingot, Wayfarer's Tin Ingot, Brute's Tin Ingot… with no word on what the names mean.
