I'm concerned with the paladins role in a group now that clerics have stepped up their role in combat. They're protective role seems nice, but when you have a decent healer in the group, I don't know if it'd be worth it. Some of their things with 60 second durations do seem quite extreme to me, and I hope it's not as insane as it sounds, or that it gets respeced. But from what I've read on the cleric, they will be big undead smashers, which kind of takes away from the paladins role in that.

In the classic "Holy Trinity" you can not be too much of a protective fighter... the ability to mitigate, avoid, and absorb damage all increases time until death.. If the paladin can provide the best abilities at those three, then they will require the least healing, and thus the group would have a larger chance of surviving long encounters. In addition, the added protection allows the paladin to survive large damage spikes, that may have taken down a warrior, that split second longer of life may be the difference between that cleric getting offf the big heal or the insta heal, and a group wipe... I dont think that the cleric's damage abilities are anything to compare to a paladin, and thus do not look at them as a threat or redundant to the paladin...

Alright, that makes a bit more sense. I have not really dealt with being the tank a whole lot in games, so I'm not really sure how they play out in the long run. It almost seems strange to me though, a paladin being more tankish than the straight up warrior class.

Ya i guess we'll just have to wait and see for the paladin. They don't have the CC abilities that DKs have (apparently :P don't know for sure as i havn't played either). So they must have to really own with their rescues or there is not much incentive to play them. Tanking and being able to heal yourself does sound appealing, but i agree that the lack of dmg would probably get on your nerves.

If i play a tank i'll go warrior all the way. DPS tank sounds the most fun to me, even if they only have one mindset. To kill lol.

I have played paladin in WoW, I have to say it is possibily one of the worst/most boring class in the game.
However they are really an asset when in a group situation.
I truly hope there are something really different in Vanguard to shine this class from the traditional paladin.

I only played WoW for a short time, and def did not "get" the game... I would not use the classes that WoW used to define what may happen in VG... The pally through MUds, D&D, EQ and written fiction, have always been the guardians of the right, jsut and weak... I think the VG Pally will embody those ideals, they will be a fearsome tank, have righteous powers of protection and safety, along with minor powers of healing granted by the gods... They will be the first into battle, closest to the foe, and last to run in the face of fear... If those ideals dont appeal to you, then the VG Pally prob will not be for you... there will always be the Zerker after they implement it... no being a boring fighter there!
