I edited together a list of all the known society quests for ahgram and new targonor from all the information I could find. I thought a concise list of them would be handy for people looking for this information. Some info is missing and a small amount may be incorrect but its as good as I can determine at this time.
Major City Society Quests
You many belong to one of the guild factions in each of the major cities. You may also do the intro quest for any or all of the factions in a city but these will not be available anymore after you complete one of the Joining the Faction quests.
Also changing to a new society from an old one give a +50 faction bonus for that society and a –50 faction hit to the other two.

Attributes:
Until you are more comfortable with how things work, try to keep your Attributes (PS, Reasoning, etc) at (levelx10)+1 or better, with emphasis on the one you are using heavily at the time. This would mean get Reasoning to (levelx10)+1 first then Finesse from level 1 to ~23, from 24-40 get Finesse up first then Reasoning, 41+ Ingenuity first. Keep them all (levelx10)+1 if you can, just if you can't put points in those suggested above first then bring up all the others.
Quality and You
For most people starting off, low B grade on Moderate WO's or high B/Low A on Easy WO's will be "average" and you can still level very quickly at that rate. A's are going to be out of reach for most on Moderates until your 20's unless you have very very good gear, which most won't. At 25 when you can get some valueable actions (Tool 1 Action 6, Utility 1 Action 6) as well as Ahgram/NT jewelry, getting 100% A's on moderates will not happen for a lot of people. Don't worry. Just get what quality you can without losing the WO. Getting a moderate B or even C is better than failing trying to get A and getting no xp.

Then use gear to bring them all over level x10 or more. So you will need more +station gear early on, then shifting to +tool gear later on.
There are probably other ways you can move around your skills each level to get another ability here and there, but doing that will require you to make massive changes in gear. I know some will suggest going with a certain set up one level, then radically reducing points in one to boost another. While that might gain you an action a level or two quicker, it will require you to get possibly an entire new set of gear. My method slowly moves you along in the right direction so that you can build your gear as you go.
Unless you can get large amounts of blue/yellow crafting gear of all types and levels as you progress (from guild or friends) I'd highly recommend not doing those massive adjustments, and just sticking to a gradual increase so that you can get by with the gear you will earn as you progress.
Ahgram/New Targonor Guild Choices:
Because of the high +Tool needs for this build, I recommend going with New Targonor Trading Company and Merchant's Guild for your main two choices. Do each of the guild's first and second quests for the extra xp and jewelry, but do the NT Trading Co and Merchant Guilds as your final one in each city then stick to them for the final +25 Tool rings they offer. You'll have to do a bit of faction for each after joining and leaving the other two guilds, but you'll earn lots of xp and a good set of jewelry which you can use to quickly balance out holes in your gear as you level.

As an artificer I'm finding that I use the 370 tool skill low progress, high quality action the most -- it's where I get most of my quality, while I only use utility actions to top off quality if necessary. With a balanced build at 50 (536/536/536 and PS 491 - Reas 496 - Ing 502 - Fin 491), I can easily make an A grade on any WO and regular recipes are simple. I can't recall what my unmodified stats are, but they're not far off 400 each, with points moved around to balance my gear (all blue lvl 50 gear, not upgraded, and all tools are rare and heroic).
I'm wondering if reversing your build would be quite useful -- high tools, low utils -- to crafters like me who depend on tools. I certainly would be profoundly reluctant to drop tools below 370 and lose my favorite low progress, high quality action, just to gain a high progress utility action.
With artificing, my build works well, I believe, mainly because with the exception of the swamp upgrade recipes, my recipes top out at lvl 44. Obviously this is going to be quite different for a tailor with bag recipes at 48 and a leatherworker with bag recipes at 49. And obviously since Jaradis is a weaponsmith, the high utils / low tools build works well for smithing.
On another note, I had about 50% more complications when my build was 550/550/550 but my finesse was 30 pts lower than the rest of my stats. Once I finally got my finesse up, even though my skills dropped quite a bit, my complications dropped by a third. This convinced me that having all four attributes up in the ballpark of 10x level has much more of an effect than I'd previously believed.

Hello and thank you for this write up. I'm new to VG and even newer to crafting. Currently I'm a level 25 blacksmith and I believe the guide I've been using thus far is out of date as it refers to EE or something like that.
It suggested I keep my station skill between 25-35% of the SUM of my Utility and Tools skill, depending on the type of crafter I wished to be(offensive, defensive, or balanced).
So, I'm wondering if I have my skills correct and found this thread. Now before I start adjusting I just want to confirm that this thread is in fact up to date and the information it contains is still pertinent.
At level 25 Armorsmith my current skills unbuffed are:
Forging Utilities 213
Forging Tools 207
Forging (believe this is my "station" skill) 156
I have 24 unspent skill points and the above are all locked until I figure this out. What I am thinking is I need to set Forging to minus so it goes down and raise Tools to 250 and Utilities to 220 if I am interpreting Jaradis' guide correctly.
Is this correct?
Also the above is my Finishing skills/score. I assume the same applies to Refining?
Thank you in advance for your help.

The guide above is laying down a path to get the most useful actions at the earliest level. You can move your skills around based on the clothing you get (and you should.) But following the guide will get you to T1A6 at lvl 23. Tool 1, Action 6 is the most powerful skill I use in crafting. Even, and especially, at lvl 50. With gear on to boost my stats to 10x level and a base skill in tools of 270. Using that skill alone I can get as much as 80% Quality.
No utilities consumed. My station isnt the best, and I even have low Problem solving. Sure I cant single shot comps, but I clear every single one. Sure I dont need to, I can ignore some -utility comps during the tool phase. But when I have 600-1200 AP left over after killing every comp that comes along? I just clear them all. Gross waste of AP, but I dont care.
Personally I didnt know about the guide until I was in the low 30's and I found out the hard way. The guide made the difference. The time it took me to get from 32 to 50 was 1/2 the time it took me to get to 32. Huge difference in speed and effectiveness.

The faction hits for the aprons are +500 to appropriate society, -300 to both opposing societies.
Also, Changing Societies is a +50pt faction to the one you are changing to, -50 to the other two.

Actually not true anymore. You can do more than one Society if you visit another and "repent" to the society. Downside to this is that after you repent and do the +19 jewelry joining quest, you are still about -900 faction to make up to do the apron quest for them. Which makes doing all 3 fully kind of a pain for the last society seeing as after you do the first 2 fully, you'll be about -2700 to -3000 faction with the 3rd. But, if you have nothing better to do and what all 6 pieces of +25 jewelry.... LOL

Jaradis...
Awesome post... one question though... I notice you basically lock out tools around 28 or so until 49. Then you say to keep geared skills at level x10. Now, that would mean getting around +210 tools in gear. Is that how I understand what you've done here?
I'm using a 36/33/31 St/Ut/Tl spread rt now on both my 35 carp and 32 tailor with decent results... can get mod A's most of the time. I also went very heavy in problem solving and can one-shot most comps (unless they have effic.)...... (actually went this route per your suggestion). All my skills are at at least 10x level + 10-20 or more with gear.
Also, do the + rating on tools count towards your skill when they're equipped? So when figuring geared stats should we make sure we have a tool equipped?
Thanks again!

He proly needs it for refilling his quality when he gets the quality comps that he mentioned(when his remedies don't refill it). He also mentioned in the last line, that the reason he doesn't need the quality from the tools, is because of certain actions, which includes that +quality finisher.
I notice you ignored those parts of his post, so I thought I would point them out.
*edit* Also, I have been using this guide since level 15ish, and if you can keep the stats/skills evened out with gear (which hasnt been hard yet) then it works amazingly well. I have had no problems getting up through levels with it. Only recipes I have any problems with at my level are the yellows, and I can still finish those with B(sometimes A).

*Edit* After searching the DB over at Curse, the Final item info on our list is incorrectly labeled as Finger, instead of Ear for the final Cabal quest reward.*edit*
Just to verify. Can any verify for sure. . .
I was looking and comparing/evaluating each of the societies. i noticed a typical pattern across 5 of the 6 societies. Most give the same type of jewelry piece for all 3 of their quests IE: Finger, Finger, Finger or Ear, Ear, Ear. However, according to this, the Cabal give Ear, Ear, Finger.
i find the diversion from the pattern annoying, in the fact that it makes my choices harder I dont intend to try and do 2 of each.

When doing the Crafter Guilds in Ahgram and New Targonor, highly suggest to do the following:
Ahgram - Join Merchant Guild
New Targonor - Join New Targonor Trade OrganizationBoth will give you a +25 Tool Ring on their 3rd or 4th quest.
Other 2 organizations give +Station or + Utility, which you won't really need at 50lv and this build.
Did the Cabal in Ahgram and ITO in NT a few months ago before they even had additional quests and not knwoing about this guide
Its a PITA quitting 1 crafter guild and joining another due to the faction grind.
So save yourself the trouble and don't do what I did.

Another question occured to me. You said to set the skills as you display them above, then use +skill gear to raise them all to x10 your level.
So at 25 I would have Tools set at 250 and station at 130. This would mean I would need +120 station gear and +0 Tool gear. Which seems to suggest I should concentrate solely on +station gear.
Should I still raise Tools with +gear? Will I continue to gain a worthwhile effect from the investment or will I experience diminishing returns once my tool/utility skills exceed levelx10?
Thank-you again,
~Grim

Artifact lost in NT has confusing dialogue from the noc with the 3rd peice of the artififact, the bookbinder. he tells my minerologist he will swap the item for some materials he can use to repair his books or bookshelves, 3 dry wood boards or 3 outiftter items or 3 smith items. But, even with the boards in my pack, he goes right on into a sub quest where he asks for 3 toughened leather strapping and 4 rugged leather lining. So now Im looking all over for a leatherworkder who hasnt given up on crafting yet...

Im curious if its just me, i dont seem to notice any significant (if any) difference using high or low level tools. I suspect if your tool skill is already level x 10, you kinda hit a soft cap. So using higher level tools dont really make your craft actions more effective?
edit: well my guildies dont even bother with +tool gear anymore. They have jaradis's build at lvl 50, station and ultilities (Level X 10 with excess) . Tool skill is lacking, but they claim their lvl 50 tools evens it out.

I was unable to receive the apron quest for NTTC at lvl 27, however after doing regular refining and finishing WOs and hitting lvl 28 I was immediately able to do the quest. I am not sure whether this was due to a lvl requirement or faction requirement. However I was well over 100 faction with Thestra Artisans yet well below 200. Hope this helps.

The Bindings and Strappings is a completely different quest.
The NT Trade Apron quest is 3 Dry Board, Iron Ingot or Stiff Bundles. However, Dry Boards seem to not be registering as an option when you have them. I was able to complete it with the Stiff Bundles.

wonderful! i have been looking for this, so i can choose the right one to go for some time now!
Stickied! (will let this chill here for a bit, then we'll also sgo ahead and move it to the Guides area, just to make sure people see it).

I am a lvl 27 blacksmith, have 104 NT artisans faction and 259 faction with the NTTC. Nolan is still red shielded to me, so I can't get the apron quest. Same in Aghram, although my faction is lower there.
Thanks,
Telth

V Nice indeed.. Good work.
WIll come in handy for my 25 Outfitter... Im guessing you can only do one guilds set of quests say in Aghram... But can i tootle off to NT and do some of those quests too at the same time?
