Description
"The people here, and moreover, the people everywhere need something to show them we are winning. The undead invasion has stopped for the most part, but their menace hangs over the entirety of Thestra like a vulture. The dwarves are tired of waiting." "I need you to deliver a message to King Mithdor. We will help, if he sends his invasion force to Targonor. The elves will too. I need you to find some maps in the library here, and get a scouts report on the undead army. You'll deliver these to Mithdor."
What they say
The parley
Gregg Nolan "The dwarves have been preparing a massive offensive," Gregg Nolan says. "They need only a direction." "Where is this force going?" you ask. "That's the issue," he says. "They are building to the point of rage. They need to go to war. Sitting on the wall has become dangerously demoralizing." "And you need someone to deliver a direction to them?" you ask. "Exactly," he says. "We want to make sure they aren't going to launch the attack at us. We must ensure they go where we need them to go." "So where is the message to be delivered?" you ask. "This is a little unprecedented," he says, "but that's almost up to you." "I would decide the fate of the dwarven offensive?" you ask. "Only partly. We have two locations we wish to go. Either will benefit us the same," Gregg says. "What are my options?" you ask. "Remember, you are only delivering King Targonor's suggestion on a target, but the first place would be Old Targonor." "Ah," you say, smiling. "Go on the offensive to oust the undead invasion." "Exactly," he says. "That is their main foothold on Thestra. If we can push them out of there, we may be able to set up a base for keeping them back." "And where would the other place be?" you ask. "Leth Nurae," he says. You stare at Gregg Nolan in shocked silence. Quest Offering "The people here, and moreover, the people everywhere need something to show them we are winning. You'll deliver these to Onios." High Sorceress Alia Tanvager "High Sorceress," you say, "I have need to speak to you." "I thought you might be coming," she says. "I have heard you have research to do." "Yes," you say. "I must find some maps of Targonor, but I don't know what I'm looking for." "Targonor," she says, "has many underground passages, as well as weak points in the structure accessible from those passages." "We cataloged them in hopes of fixing then," she continues, " but we were never able to finish our work before the invasion." "So we now hope to use those to our advantage," you say. "Yes," she says, nodding. "Though it pains me to help damage our city, it may be the only way to make a massive assault." "Where are these maps?" you ask. "The are in the upper stacks in the library," she says. "I can mark your map with the room, but they may be all over the room." "How will I know what the maps look like?" you ask. "They will be massive scrolls," she says. "There are quite a few of them, but only one will hold the information you need." "However," she continues, "you cannot take them with you. We need them. You will only need a copy, though, to prove your point right now." "Thank you for your time," you say. "Map of Targonor" This scroll has a detailed map of an underground portion, with something scratched out near a door. It appears to have said "Targonor" at one point. It also details weak points of the structure where gates can be destroyed and holes can be opened in the formidable walls. You'll need to make a copy to take with you. Lady Feressa "Lady Feressa," you say. "I would like to speak to you." "Please," she says, "be quick. I have much to tend to with the bugbears about." "It is a matter of great importance," you say. "One that might be able to help you." "Oh?" she says. "Go on." "The alliance between the elves, humans, and dwarves are amassing an army," you say, "to march on Targonor." "We cannot berth such an army in any of our cities," you continue, "for fear of spies." "You want to use this location?" she asks. "You want to defile the shrine?" "No," you say. "We wouldn't touch the shrine." "This is my home," she says, "and there is no easy way to get over the mountains from here." "Can we make a deal?" you ask. "What sort of deal?" she says. "If the army could stay here," you say, "and you could help us get over the mountains quickly, we would use the army to wipe out the bugbears for good." She thinks for a moment. "I think," she says, "that would be just fine. Tell your people I'll agree to that deal." Firen Torson "So," the delegate says, "I understand you wish to speak to me on behalf of the varanjar." "On behalf of Halgarad and Dahknarg," you say. "We need your help again." "You always need our help," Firen Torson says. "Yet where was your help when the Vault of Heroes fell to our enemies?" "We still have a war," you say. "It has not ended since you left." "You do not have a war," Firen Torson says. "You have a standoff. Never mistake the two." "Then consider this," you say, "we are planning a war." The delegate raises her eyebrow. "Oh? What do you plan to do?" "We are amassing an army to march on Targonor itself," you say. "We will push the undead off Thestra for good." "That is a bold move," she says, "but that is very far from our interests." "It will not be if the undead march through all of us to the east," you say. "They will come for you eventually." "You are still asking us to help you when you have not returned the favor," she says. "This time the deal will be equitable. What will you do for us?" "If we were to promise to help you retake the Vault of Heroes, would you agree to help us?" you say. The delegate sighs. "This will take quite a bit of talk. Give them, for now, my tacit approval." Tully Lightstep "You make too much noise when you walk." "So," Tully say, "You're the one they sent?" Little loud weren't you?" "I was unaware I needed to be sneaking around," you say. "Considering what you're doing," he says, "I would think you'd be a little more worried." "I think I'll be fine," you say. "Do you have the report?" "I do," he says. "These are all the notes from my unit. Or at least a copy of them." You flip through the pages for a moment. "What all is in here?" "It contains notes we took on their troop movements," he says. "Where the bulk of their army is, what they seem to be doing." "How close did you get to Targonor?" you ask. "We were inside for a day," he says. "And outside close by for a week." "You were inside?" you ask, excitedly. "Yes," he says. "Never send a man to do dalefolk work." "I see," you say. "Thank you." "Take it quickly," he says. "I don't want to see our work fall into the hands of someone else." You have looted Scout's Report . King Mithdor Flamehammer "I firmly believe in our decision to support the Council of Targonor." "King Mithdor," you say, bowing," I have come to deliver a message from the King Targonor." "Yes?" he says. "What have the humans brought this time? More excuses?" "No, Your Majesty," you say, "I have brought word of an alliance." "We are already in an alliance," he says, "or at least your ambassadors think we are. I don't see too many humans on my wall." "That is something we would like to fix," you say, "but defending the wall is not what we need to do." "Oh?" he says. "What are you purposing?" "We would like to assault the stronghold of the undead armies," you say. "We want to push them off the continent for good, just like the orcs." "That is something I didn't expect," he says. "What are you thinking of doing?" "We have support from the elves for such an initiative," you say, "as well as tacit approval from the eastern races." "The pixies at the Shrine of the Eternal Flame have agreed to billet the army for a short time while it masses," you continue. "You have the army, the way, human," he says, "and the will. But Targonor is strong, almost too strong to assail from the front." "That," you say, smiling, "we have worked out. We have maps of Targonor that outline structural weaknesses." You hand him the copy of the map. "You would destroy your own city?" he says. "We would damage it, yes," you say, "for the greater good. We also have reports of their troop movements and guard postings." You hand him the scouts report. "My my," he says, "you have been a busy one, haven't you." Quest Completion "Your King is indeed correct. This offensive will show everyone there is still something to do, something to fight for," King Mithdor says. "My people have been itching to take this fight to the undead menace. We can only wait so long." [Continue] "I'll deliver the commands to my general immediately. We'll be ready to ship out within the month and will meet the other forces in the Shrine of the Eternal Flame," King Mithdor says. "I thank you for delivering such news. It does warm this old heart a bit to see the humans didn't completely lose their spines when they lost their city. Take one of these as a token of my appreciation."
