What they say
The parley
High Sorceress Alia Tanvager "I am mistress of the College of Magic here in New Targonor and the affiliated magic schools across Thestra." "We in House Tanvager realize that unifying all magical training under one educations system. Ours." "High Sorceress," you say, "I have need to speak to you." "I thought you might be coming," she says. "I have heard you have research to do." "Yes," you say. "I must find some maps of Targonor, but I don't know what I'm looking for." "Targonor," she says, "has many underground passages, as well as weak points in the structure accessible from those passages." "We cataloged them in hopes of fixing then," she continues, " but we were never able to finish our work before the invasion." "So we now hope to use those to our advantage," you say. "Yes," she says, nodding. "Though it pains me to help damage our city, it may be the only way to make a massive assault." "Where are these maps?" you ask. "The are in the upper stacks in the library," she says. "I can mark your map with the room, but they may be all over the room." "How will I know what the maps look like?" you ask. "They will be massive scrolls," she says. "There are quite a few of them, but only one will hold the information you need." "However," she continues, "you cannot take them with you. We need them. You will only need a copy, though, to prove your point right now." "Thank you for your time," you say. "Map of Targonor" This scroll has a detailed map of an underground portion, with something scratched out near a door. It appears to have said "Targonor" at one point. It also details weak points of the structure where gates can be destroyed and holes van be opened in the formidable walls. You'll need to make a copy to take with you. Lady Feressa "Lady Feressa," you say. "I would like to speak to you." "Please," she says, "be quick. I have much to tend to with the bugbears about." "It is a matter of great importance," you say. "One that might be able to help you." "Oh?" she says. "Go on." "The alliance between the elves, humans, and dwarves are amassing an army," you say, "to march on Targonor." "We cannot berth such an army in any of our cities," you continue, "for fear of spies." "You want to use this location?" she asks. "You want to defile the shrine?" "No," you say. "We wouldn't touch the shrine." "This is my home," she says, "and there is no easy way to get over the mountains from here." "Can we make a deal?" you ask. "What sort of deal?" she says. "If the army could stay here," you say, "and you could help us get over the mountains quickly, we would use the army to wipe out the bugbears for good." She thinks for a moment. "I think," she says, "that would be just fine. Tell your people I'll agree to that deal." Varanjar Delegate "So," the delegate says, "I understand you wish to speak to me on behalf of the Varanjar." "On behalf of Halgarad and Dahknarg," you say. "We need your help again." "You always need our help," Rolgren Torson says. "Yet where was your help when the Vault of Heroes fell to our enemies?" "We still have a war," you say. "It has not ended since you left." "You do not have a war," Rolgren Torson says. "You have a standoff. Never mistake the two." "The consider this," you say, "we are planning a war." The delegate raises her eyebrow. "Oh? What do you plan to do?" "We are amassing an army to march on Targonor itself," you say. "We will push the undead off Thestra for good." "That is a bold move," she says, "but that is very far from our interests." "It will not be if the undead march through all of us to the east," you say. "They will come for you eventually." "You are still asking us to help you when you have not returned the favor," she says. "This time the deal will be equitable. What will you do for us?" "If we were to promise to help you retake the Vault of Heroes, would you agree to help us?" you say. The delegate sighs. "This will take quite a bit of talk. Give them, for now, my tacit approval." Tully Lightstep "You make too much noise when you walk." "So," Tully say, "You're the one they sent?" Little loud weren't you?" "I was unaware I needed to be sneaking around," you say. "Considering what you're doing," he says, "I would think you'd be a little more worried." "I think I'll be fine," you say. "Do you have the report?" "I do," he says. "These are all the notes from my unit. Or at least a copy of them." You flip through the pages for a moment. "What all is in here?" "It contains notes we took on their troop movements," he says. "Where the bulk of their army is, what they seem to be doing." "How close did you get to Targonor?" you ask. "We were inside for a day," he says. "And outside close by for a week." "You were inside?" you ask, excitedly. "Yes," he says. "Never send a man to do dalefolk work." "I see," you say. "Thank you." "Take it quickly," he says. "I don't want to see our work fall into the hands of someone else." Chancellor Onios "Chancellor Onios," you say, bowing, "I have come to deliver a message." "Yes, Tristam, we have been waiting to hear from you" he says, nodding. "I have brought word from King Targonor," you say. "What have you discovered?" he asks. "I have this document," you say, "which is a copy of Targonor's weak points. This is a crude copy, but there will be a more thourough one available soon." The Chancellor looks over the copy of the map. "Crude indeed." Ignoring the slight, you continue, "I have also secured Lady Feressa's help. We may mass the army in the Shrine of the Flame and they will help us over the mountain range. In return, the army must merely help them wipe out the bugbears and stay away from the Shrine." "That," he says, "sounds fine. What else?" "Halgarad and Dahknarg has pledged their support for now," you say, "pending discussions." "Discussions about what?" he says, sneering. "They would deny help in a war for petty squabbles?" "They may," you say, "but that is another matter. I also brought a report from our scouts near there." You hand him the report, which he thumbs through. "You may go over that at your leisure, but it contains reports about their patrols, guards, and army directions," you say. "This will be fine," he says. "Thank you, Tristam." Quest Completion "Your King is indeed correct. This offensive will show everyone there is still something to do, something to fight for," Chancellor Onios says. [Continue] "I'll deliver the news and these reports to the queen when she is ready," he continues. "I have no doubt that she will be willing to help take Targonor back from the undead." "Take one of these," Onios continues, "as a show of our support for you, Tristam" Select Reward
