What they say

The parley

Quest Offering Juritor Aya Sa sketches the briefest of bows, and speaks first: "Welcome. The Sun Village is in dire need of help. The hobgoblins are destroying Tentrees to the south, and the people are confused and scared. I will not stand idly by, and would ask your assistance with this." She adds, "I urge you to speak with this list of people in Tentrees. I will also need to speak to you first before you go. When finished, report to Shui Redwine again." Juritor Aya Sa Aya looks you over. "I'm going to provide you with some of the background information on the state of Tentrees and the hobgoblin situation. If you already know some of this, I hope you will find it a useful refresher." You nod politely gesturing for her to continue. "Tentrees is a logging outpost that provides valuable lumber to the Sun Village and the farms and homesteads located just outside of the outpost itself. It is run by the Tentrees family and has generally had little problems with the hobgoblins." You nod, taking all the information in. "However, a high priest of Vothdar named Iku Dai came to the Isle of Dawn a short time ago. Within a brief period of time, he led a campaign against the Temple of the Ancestors to the north. It seemed he planned on taking control of it since the hobgoblins took it over when the people of the Isle of Dawn abandoned it long ago." "I take it everything didn't go as planned," you comment. "Not quite. Iku Dai and his retainers have not been heard of since their trek. In addition, the hobgoblins have become far more aggressive and encroached into our lands. Worse, fiends to the north have been spotted and have the villagers frightened." You frown. "I see. Terrible news, indeed." "Yes. And with Iku Dai taking so many skilled fighters with him, it leaves the Sun Village at a sincere disadvantage. However, I think some negotiations with the hobgoblins might be our only way to solve this problem completely. I could use someone as sharp as you helping out from Tentrees. I would go myself, but I still have things to attend to here." You nod firmly. "I understand. I'll go to Tentrees and gather some information before I approach them." Kamashi Sunrain You nod to Kamashi. "Kamashi Sunrain. How are you today?" "As well as I can be, (your name) , he says with a sigh. "The hobgoblins," you say sympathetically. He nods, running his hand over his face while glancing out towards the ruined houses in the distance. "I tell you, it's going to take a long time to rebuild these things. I'm afraid I can't tell you much more than you already know." "Do you know who else might be a good source of information on this topic?" He looks thoughtful. "Well, Hiro Tentrees is the son of the owner here at Tentrees. I know he's been working hard to build a new house for the refugees right now. Shui Redwine also has a good pulse on how things are going with the hobgoblins in general." You smile. "Thank you Kamashi, I will speak to them right away." Hiro Tentrees Hiro is hammering away at a plank, sweat beading on his brow. You fold your arms across your chest and lean against one of the sturdier beams, nodding casually to him. He stops his hammering briefly, wiping his brow with his forearm and giving you a curious look. "Yes? (Your Name) ?" You offer an easy smile. "You are hard at work, my friend. What the hobgoblins have done here is unforgivable. I'd like to help anyway I can. Could you provide some more information on this problem?" He nods at you, setting his hammer down. "Of course. Well, we've always had problems with the hobgoblins. It's been pretty quiet before High Priest Iku Dai came here, though. That really stirred the hornet's nest." You tap a finger on your chin. "I've heard about him." He smiles grimly, turning to spit off to the side. "That's right. He led a group of our warriors to the Temple of the Ancestors far north." You gesture. "And no one's heard from him since?" Hiro shakes his head. "Not a word from him, or his retainers. But the hobgoblins certainly responded, and the story out of Sun Village is about creatures called ulvari appearing to the north." "I see," you allow, thinking. Hiro frowns. "This is serious. The hobgoblins have a fortress-like cave called the Earth Den just a little outside Tentrees. We will have to stop them there if we want to eliminate their southern foothold here." You nod in agreement. "Thank you Hiro for your help. I'm going to see what I can do about this." Aoma Sixfish Aoma appears to be meditating. You step up beside her and clear your throat. Sighing, she opens one eye and tilts her head towards you. "May I help you?" "I'm sorry to bother you," you begin. "But this house ... you are all refugees? Is this because of the hobgoblins?" "Yes, stranger," she says, sounding somewhat annoyed. "You are quite new here to ask such a question. The hobgoblins have been razing our homes and destroying our fields." "That's terrible. Why are they performing such an offensive right now? I understand you have been fighting them for awhile, have they just decided to push further?" "No, this occured after the group led by Iku Dai went to the Temple of the Ancestors , she replies." "Iku Dai? The high priest of Vothdar that arrived on the island not too long ago." You stroke your chin. She nods. "That's right. His meddling has caused this problem. I don't care about his good intentions, they don't bring back my home. I should join my sister among the Veterans. Anyway, would you mind leaving me alone?" You bow your head to her. "Thank you for your time. Good fortune be with you." She returns the head bow, then returns to her meditation. Shui Redwine Shui bows his head politely to you. "You've come on behalf of the Juritor, am I correct?" You grin. "Very astute, Shui. That's correct." He nods. "I suspected as much. She knows there is only so much I can do down here by myself. I spend most of my time managing the defenses with Kamashi and the Tentrees family." "What can you tell me about the recent hobgoblin attacks?" you ask. "They use a cave they call the Earth Den as their headquarters." He looks thoughtful. "Very dangerous place. But, if we're going to negotiate with the hobgoblins, we have to go there." "I've done things like this before," you assure him. "This will be no problem." He smiles politely. "Then I will leave this to you, (your name) . I do have a plan. Speak to me after you've gotten some rest." You smile back. "I'm looking forward to it." Quest Completion Shui smiles politely. "It is not the words you say, but how you say them. Recall the words of Chihoni the Auger: 'A word carries no thing Dry leaes ferried by the wind Then spoken springs to life.' You now have understanding of our situation." Shui nods to you. "The Kojani believe in harmony. To achieve harmony, there must be understanding. What seperates those on the Path of Harmony from those of the Path of Lesser Wisdom is understanding of others - motives, lifestyles, hopes... fears." He pauses. "That leads us to the problem with the hobgoblins. Will you help us further, <name>?"
