Elder Sal
Quest Offering "I think that we have a decent case to bring before the Wardens," says Elder Sal. "Or at least to Warden Wolveskin. Go back to here and but forward all that we have in our hand and see what she says about our chances of making a compelling case. Speak with Warden Riverborn if Zephiria thinks you are ready for it." Zephiria Wolveskin "Warden Wolveskin," you say, "I do hope your discussions have been going well." Zephiria shrugs, look a little deflated. "Not nearly as well as I had hoped," she said, "but better than I had guessed." "Thanks," she adds, "largely in part to your efforts. The council, or most of the council, listened to what the Emissaries had to say and took it into serious consideration." "Some were swayed completely toward join Tanvu in their efforts against the council," she continues. "Others acknowledged that we should, once we are better prepared." "Marvelous," you say, "so, we have managed to impress you some, then?" Zephiria smiles and nods. "You have shown that you have a knack for diplomacy," she says. "Though I fear the specific tactic may have pushed you further out of Iona's favor." "Well," you say, "we knew from the start that Iona's 'favor' was not something we were ever likely to get, so that was never my chief concern." "Oh?" asks Zephiria curiously. "You do realize that she will be a large part of the decision as to whether a raki presence should be added to the council, don't you? We may have equal say to her in some matters, such as this war, but this is her council, and it's matters are chiefly her own." "Yes," you say, "but we have another tactic for her and those who are as difficult to sway as her." "And what is that?" asks Zephiria. "You've certainly got my attention." "Well," you say, "to begin with, we have a formal complaint to make. The existence of an incredibly powerful crystal was hidden from us, even though our people control the Hall of Glyphs, and when we discovered it, it was taken from us, and we were lied to." "That's an unfortunate story but not likely to earn you a place on the council," says Zephiria. "Even if you make the point that a Raki presence would deter similar injustices from happening." "Well," you say, "the key element to this whole tale is that we managed to get a piece of that crystal back and discover its uses." "It appears that it could potentially transport us back to our home world," you say. Zephiria's expression intensifies. "So you have that to pose a threat to us," murmur Zephiria. "You would leave us, wouldn't you? Leaving the Glade, leaving us, to the Ulvari..." "We don't want to," you say, feeling your gut wrench at the sadness in Zephiria's voice. "We really do not. But we will not allow these abuses to continue and sit by idly." "Oh I understand," says Zephiria. "It's a brilliant move, and I cannot hold it against you - as much as my loyalty to my race demands it." You realize, with a sinking feeling, that while she may still be an ally, you have likely sacrificed her friendship. But such it seems is the game of diplomacy. "We really don't want to," you say. Zephiria doesn't respond. "I would say you are in a perfect position to speak with Iona," she says quietly. "Go on." Iona Riverborn "Warden Riverborn," you say, "your countenance shines like the sun today." Iona glances you up and down. "I see someone is drawing flourishes with their words," she says. "They do me well at times," you say. "Anyway, let me get straight to business..." "I hope this is something new," she says with a yawn, "and not a reiteration of your former foolishness." "Actually," you say, "I do wish to speak again about the possibility of a raki presence on the council." "And I can tell you right now that my position has not changed," she says with a smile. "Well," you say, "you may want to hear what I have to say, first." "I doubt it," she says with a frown, "but proceed." "Well," you say, "I will not bother to fill in all the details, because you, as the Sun, should likely be familiar with them. Suffice to say, we became aware of a crystal some of the Deacons of the Moon were studying." "As you likely know, our piece of said crystal was taken from us by one of your elves," you say. "Go on," says Iona, narrowing her eyes. "I won't bother to ask how you got it." "We were deceived regarding its nature; after its existence has been hidden from us, despite the fact that one of us stands as the head of the Hall of Glyphs, Ca'ial Brael's authority of magic." "Now," you say, "we managed to acquire another piece of said crystal." Iona's eyes widen and flash with anger. "And study it. We know what it is capable of and why it is you hid it from us." "You have wronged our people," you say, "and it is not the first time." "And to what does this all lead?" asks Iona. "To say that if we are not granted a position on this council, so that we can make sure further wrongs are not committed against our poeple," you say, taking a deep breath, "we will use the powers of the crystal to return to our home world." Iona is silence for a minute, then two, then three. Finally, she speaks. "Well," she says, "I cannot make this decision alone. You will have an audience with the whole of the council. I assume you have proof that the crystal can actually be used in this way?" "Yes," you say, "we will prepare a demonstration." Quest Completion "Good," says Iona, in a surprisingly light tone, "be prepared to present it in an hour." "An hour?" you ask. "Are you not as prepared, as you have claimed?" she asks in a mocking tone. "Do you need to prepare an illusion to hold up your claims?" "No," you say, gritting your teeth. "I only need to retrieve the crystal and the one who can use it."
