Quest Offering "House Heartsworn," Duchess Heartsworn says, "needs something to go our way. We need someone in our house to hold the position of Master of Keys." "I need you to secure this honor for my uncle, Count Reden Heartsworn. He has a reputation of serving the best interests of the Kingdom and will appreciate finally being recognized. His list of commendations will be enough to prove his worth, but you will still need to address the King. Again, you'll have to do this as a Knight-Errant of the old ways." Cartago Satch "Hello, Cartago," you say, "I have another request to drop off." "So soon?" he says. "You must have found something of importance in those other documents." "I did," YOU say. "Didn't you read the documents?" "Oh of course not," he says. "I'm not cleared for that information. It was above my clearance." "How, uh, how did you make copies then?" you ask, placing your request on the desk. "We have a special paper provided by House Tanvager," he says. "It will make flawless magical copies of the first page pressed to it." "I see," you say. "Well, this is a Request for Copies." "Thank you," he says. "I'll get right on this." "I have one quick question, though," you say. "For my Request for review you made copies. Why is that different than a Request for Copies?" "Well it is an old tradition," he says. "We used to not make copies for a review, but decided we can't have everyone mucking up the originals, so we started making copies." "Then why do you still have the two different requests then, if they are essentially the same thing?" "Oh, well, the process is under review," he says. "The necessary forms have yet to be filled out to eliminate an entire process of paperwork." "Ah." Grodek "I understand you are making a set of keys for the Master of Keys, Grodek," you say. "I am," he says. "Is there something the matter?" "May I look at one?" you ask. "Of course," he says, handing you a key. Looking at it, the head of the key is marked with the seal of House Godfrey. "Who told you to put this seal on the keys?" you ask. "A representative from House Godfrey," he says. "They said the King was going to award a member of their house the keys, so they wanted them branded." "I see," you say, scowling. "Do these keys not belong to the King then?" "I suppose they would," he says, looking at you blankly. "Then shouldn't they be branded with the seal of the King, no matter who they are awarded to?" you ask. "That would follow," he says, sighing. "I suppose you want me to rework the heads then?" "I would like that, yes," you say. "Do you need the key molds for that?" "Oh no," he says. "The heads don't need those." "Then, may I return the molds to the King for you?" He looks at you surprised. "That would be fine, thank you, Drax," he says. "Thank you, Grodek." Cartago Satch "You're here for the documents?" Cartago asks. "I am," you say. "Have you completed them?" "A few minutes ago," he says. "This was quite a job. There was quite a few documents." "How many?" you ask. "It would seem," he says, "Count Reden Heartsworn has been awarded by various people more than 25 times in his career." "That many?" you ask. "Is that a lot?" "A lot?" he says, chuckling. "That's almost unheard of. Count Heartsworn has four commendations for valor, three for service to the King, and another five for services done for the city." "I see," you say. "I, uh, I thought you weren't supposed to read the documents you copied." "Oh I can read these," he says. "It was a Request for Copies, not a Request for Review." "That's ridiculous," you say. "I thought you said they were essentially the same thing." "They are," he says. "It wouldn't matter anyways, these are public records." "Then I suppose this is fine," you say. "When do you think you will finally only have one Request process?" "Oh the paperwork takes a while," he says. "I'd say in the next five to ten years." Horace Godfrey (This parley is an optional aggressive parley if you walk too near to Horace Godfrey when heading to Reeve Gromwell. You can also avoid this parley when you're invisible.) "Excuse me," Horace says, "but where are you going?" "I have an appointment with his Majesty, King Targonor Furth," you say. "You will have to wait your turn," he says, snarling. "My appointment will come first." "I'm sorry, Horace," you say, "but are you stopping a Knight-Errant from his duties?" "I do not recognize that title," he says. "It is ceremonial, worthless." "I see," you say. "That would mean, then, that anyone could disregard the title Master of Keys for instance. Being that is ceremonial and all." "Well, I, uh," Horace stammers. "You may want to rethink your argument, Horace," you say. "I'll go meet with the King and give you some time to think about it. We'll talk later, maybe." "But, wait, no," he stammers again as you walk away. Reeve Gromwell (This is not a real conversation, just a one-click discussion. Including for completeness.) "I have some key molds to return." "These are the key molds from Grodek, eh?" Reeve Gromwell says, looking over the items. "I will have these returned their resting place in the castle. Thank you, Drax," he says. King Baran Targonor Furth "Your Majesty," you say, bowing before the King. "I am Knight-Errant Drax." "You may rise, Knight," he says. "What has brought you before me?" "My house, the noble Heartsworn, has heard that you plan to award the position of Master of Keys." "I have decided to to this, yes," he says. "But the time for announcing candidates has ended." "Your Majesty, may I ask a question?" you say. "You may, Knight," he says. "How many candidates did you receive? May I assume only House Godfrey has petitioned you?" The King thinks for a moment. "That is correct, Knight," he says. "Why do you ask?" "It would appear, your Majesty," you say, "that House Godfrey was not honorable in this matter. No other house was notified of your intentions." "No one?" he asks, growling. "Then I will rectify this. Who would you like to announce as a candidate?" "I would like to put forth Count Reden Heartsworn, your Majesty," you say, handing him the documents. "You know him well. He is a man, whom history shows can be trusted to act with honor." "He is also a man," you say, "that has acted to aid the King at times when his own reputation would be tarnished." "I know this man well," the King says, quietly. "I had personally hoped he would petition for the position." "I do not mean to trouble you anymore, your Majesty," you say, "but is there an answer I can take back to Duchess Heartsworn?" "There is, Knight," he says. "Count Reden was my first choice anyways. I will award the position to him." "Thank you, your Majesty," you say, bowing. "No, thank you, Knight-Errant Drax," the King says. "You may have stopped me from making a disastrous proclamation." Quest Completion "Was the King open to our petition?" the Duchess asks. "You seem pleased." "This is fantastic," she says, smiling broadly. "Our star is rising again in the Kingdom. It will not be long before we achieve our old status and reputation again." "As a side benefit, my uncle will be very pleased to be made Master of Keys. I know he was upset he was not chosen to lead our house, but this should appease him somewhat. This also allows him to serve the King directly, something I know he's been wanting for more than a decade now. Thank you, Drax."
