Perhaps he had something to do with their... rising. You should travel to his house and search it thoroughly. Perhaps he left some sort of note behind...

Notes
waypoint leads to a small island with level 26, 2 dot undead. In the middle of the island is a stack of books. Click the books to complete objective. A Spirit of Firthaltas will spawn from the books and the quest can be turned in to him and the next part accepted.
