What they say

The parley

Quest Offering Yehuh frowns deeply and says, "I was wonder if you could take care of something for me. Myself and my apprentices are much too busy to attend to such banalities." "I need all of my instructors to agree on how many apprentices they will be taking on next year. We simply do not have room around the Hall for everyone to have droves of hangers-on! Syrila and Shoto rarely take on apprentices, but you will need to speak with Nook, Atlan, and Elindrila Summerbloom. Try to have them agree to two." Nook "Can I distract you for a moment, Nook?" you ask. Nook shrugs and says, "Very well, what is it?" "I am here on Yehuh's request," you explain. "I am speaking with all of the instructors to come to a consensus regarding new apprentices..." "Are we trying to develop new standards?" asks Nook. "Because the others have really let in some louts..." "No offense intended," adds Nook quickly, "if you're a new apprentice of Yehuh's." You shrug. "I'm not," you say. "I'm just trying to get you all to agree on only admitting two new apprentices next year." "Oh," says Nook, "why two?" "Yehuh wants to limit the number of apprentices filling up the building," you explain. "With all the trainees, it's impossible to move through." "I see," says Nook, "then why not limit it to only one? Or none at all? I would agree to that." "Do you need any?" you ask. "Well," admits Nook, "neither of my apprentices will be leaving me next year. So no, I do not really need anymore." "Well," you say, "others may need more. Yehuh thinks that the building can support that many, but any more would be too much." "I still say its crowded enough as it is," mutters Nook, "but very well. Let them have two." Atlen "I need to speak with you, Atlen," you say. Atlen glances at you and asks, "Yes?" "Yehuh sent me down here -" you begin. He cuts you off saying, "Absolutely not. No way. I will not be able to conduct my research unless I have at least four new apprentices." You stare at him. "But wait, how...?" "I am a psionist," says Atlen, looking a tad offended. "That is true," you say, "so you were reading my mind?" "Actually, no," he says, "I have more courtesy than that, but I was reading Yehuh's." "So you don't show courtesy to your superior?" you ask, raising an eyebrow. "Not often," he says, "that's what comes with trying to be my superior. He is magically capable of blocking me out, though, so I only learn what he wants me to." "I see," you say, nodding. "But you cannot be convinced to cut that number back?" Atlen shakes his head. "I am sure that everyone here could use more than two new apprentices," you say. "The problem is simply a lack of room." "I am aware," says Atlen dryly. "With all the trainees, and instructors, and apprentices..." you say. "Why, think of the cacophnay of thoughts that will be!" Atlen peers at you. "What do you mean?" "I mean to say that, with that many unguarded minds, isn't it going to be awfully loud, mentally, for you?" you ask. "Well, yes," he says, "but I can control that..." "Supposing you couldn't?" you ask. "Isn't it possible that an overload of mental activity could, well, fry your senses?" Atlen looks concerned and says, "Yes, yes that is true. "I am sure that if you need more assistance," you say, "the other instructors may be willing to lend their apprentices." Atlen says thoughtfull, "I do mostly only need them as subjects." "Well there you are!" you say. "They do not even have to be trained in your art." "Very well then," says Atlen sharply, "I'll agree." Elindrila Summerbloom "Elindrila," you say, "can I trouble your ear?" Elindra arches an eyebrow and asks, "Are you looking for training, Diplomat?" You shake your head. "Yehuh sent me down," you explain. "Oh?" asks Elindrila. "What does the little man want?" "Pardon?" you ask. "You refer to your superior as "little man"?" He is not my superior," she says, "I answer to Mithnis Springsmoot, the Wardern of the Glade." "A fellow elf," she adds. "But you do train people within this building?" you ask. "Making you a part of this institution?" Elindrila shrugs and says, "That does not make me under his direction." "Not exclusively," you say, "but what he does do is maintain order and standards within this building." "I would recommend that for the good of all," you say, "you listen to what he has to say." "Very well," says Elindrila, shrugging. "What is it?" "He is trying to reach a consensus among that instructors that they will not take on more than two apprentices next year," you say. "Oh," says Elindrila, "is that all? I only have two candidates that I am even considering - much less planning on taking on. Very well." "Good," you say, "I am glad you see the sense in this." Elindrila shrugs. "It doesn't affect me, really," she says dismissively. Quest Completion Yehuh looks a bit cross when you tell him about Elindrila. "Now you can see why I didn't want to take this on," he says with a bit of a grin. [Continue] "You've been quite helpful though! Quite helpful indeed," he says. "Here, take this..."
