Quest Offering Hedrien looks in a black mood. "Some of my deacons have reported a group of human fishermen who appear to be taking fish from a watershed that falls under our protection. We have asked them not to fish there, as nicely as we can, but they will not listen. They keep trying to evade us by finding new spots. Too bad for them they are as loud as crashing boulders." "I don't want to sacrifice our peace with the humans out of these fools' ignorance, but we will not tolerate this. Convince them to stop." Fisher Ha "We staked this spot fair and square!" "Fisher Ha," you say, "what are you doing all the way out here?" Fisher Ha glances at you warily. "Fishing," he says. "Oh," you say, "do you have the permission of Ca'ial Brael?" "Why should I need that?" asks Fisher Ha. "This land does not belong to them. They have no deed of title for it." "But it is under their protection," you say, "and they dictate what happens within its borders." "Now, do you have permission to be here taking these fish?" you ask. Fisher Ha scowls. "Of course," he spits. "Oh," you say, "is that true?" Fisher Ha studies you and shrugs mildly. "You obviously don't think it is," he says. "You're right," you say, "because I know that Ca'ial Brael would not grant you that permission." Fisher Ha frowns and says, "So we don't. What of it?" "So then you are risking beginning a conflict with Ca'ial Brael," you say. "By violating their edicts." "How would you like Tanvu's ruling body to know you are breaking laws?" you ask. Fisher Ha spits and says, "Fine. We will leave. But this is ridiculous. Their absurd rituals should not be maintained in a time like this. People are starving." "Ca'ial Brael makes the decisions they need to," you say. "Respect that." Fisher Miko You say, "Fisher Miko, why are you and your friends out here?" Miko stares you straight in the eye, saying, "We needed to find food for our families." "Tanvu," she says, "is being ravaged." "I understand," you say, "but you do realize that Ca'ial Brael has prohibited fishing here?" "Yes," says Miko with a shrug, "but it was a risk we had to take. Our people need the food." "You think it is worth the risk of putting Tanvu and Ca'ial Brael in conflict with one another?" you ask. "How do you mean?" asks Miko. "They will detain you," you say, "and if you resist, one, or all, of you could die." "If that were to happen," you say, "Tanvu could easily misunderstand it." "So it is the position of Ca'ial Brael to kill people for killing fish?" she asks angrily. "It is the position of all peoples to punish those who break their laws," you say. "They would have tried to detain you, but it could have happened as a byproduct." "It is foolish," says Miko. "That is what you think," you say. "but it is not in the eyes of Ca'ial Brael. Regardless, you are continually disrespecting them and breaking their laws. How can you expect them to not do something?" "Because I think its a far worse crime to deny food to a neighbor in a time of war," says Miko. "It is their position to stay out of the confict," you say, "though I do believe they have sent you grains, fruits... Just not the lives of animals they have sworn to protect." Miko sighs and says, "I cannot understand it, but I do not think it is worth forcing our people to fight a battle on two fronts. We will leave. But Ca'ial Brael is unwise to remain out of this conflict. It will come to them - no matter how they might hide from it." Fisher Takai "Why, Fisher Takai," you say, "what are you doing here?"
